As part of efforts to enhance the Peruvian General Volunteer Firefighters Department's (CGBVP) emergency response capacity, the United States Embassy has contributed US$45,000 worth of turnout gear.

The donation —30 firefighter suits and 30 pairs of fire boots— was handed over by U.S. Ambassador to Peru Brian A. Nichols during a ceremony on Wednesday.

Since 2006, HAP has invested over US$43 million in various aid operations, including the construction, equipping and staff-training of Regional Emergency Operation Centers in 13 Peruvian regions, as well as the donation of emergency response mobile equipment.

With said support, the United States hopes to strengthen Peru's capacity to satisfy vulnerable populations' need for government services and humanitarian aid.

"The recent fires in Lima have proved that having equipment in good condition is an ongoing priority to properly address emergencies," Ambassador Nichols affirmed.

"We hope these suits and boots will continue to protect the brave firemen and firewomen who risk their lives every day to keep us safe," he added.

To conclude, the U.S. diplomat assured assistance would continue in the future, thus "helping reinforce the strong friendship and cooperation ties binding Peru and the United States."

The activity also saw the presence of President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's wife Nancy Lange and CGBVP Operations Director Fernando Campos.
