Peru's 2019 goal is to see 6,000 ha of alternative crops and reduce coca leaf production by 10% from last year, Prime Minister Mercedes Araoz informed.

She said Devida has been promoting drug use prevention actions and converting drug-producing areas into alternative crops.

"By doing so, we will reduce drug-trafficking supplies," she said in her address to Congress.

Concerning fight against drug-trafficking, she emphasized the National Police has done a great job and more than 40 tons of drugs have been intercepted and seized so far.

"This is more than twice the amount seized during the same periods over the past five years. This figure forces us to remain vigilant and increase our efforts on the matter," Araoz pointed out.
