The democratic behavior shown by lawmakers last Thursday —following the vote on the presidential impeachment motion— has proved the political maturity the country requires, Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) President Mario Mongilardi pointed out Friday.

As is known, Congress on Thursday night rejected an impeachment motion that sought to oust President Kuczynski, after a long debate held at Parliament headquarters.

According to Mongilardi, there is a historic opportunity for dialogue that both —the Executive and Legislative Powers— cannot miss, namely Congress' majority party known as Fuerza Popular (Popular Force).

The officer added both sides share remarkable coincidences, in terms of economic matters and other topics of national interest.

"Together, they will be able to work and implement the great changes the country needs, thus returning to the growth path, reducing poverty, enabling formalization, and fighting corruption, among others," he said.

Likewise, Mongilardi noted Peru has not seen a legislative production in line with market trends in the past 17 months.

Yet, he added a window for dialogue between the opposition and the ruling party has been opened.

"We shall not miss this opportunity to act responsibly in favor of the populations most in need, with the aim of gradually reducing the trend of macroeconomic indicators, which are currently adverse, as well as diminishing informality and corruption," he concluded.
