Peru was elected as regular member to the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Governing Body for the 2017-20 period during the 106th Session of the International Labour Conference.
"Peru had not been a regular member of the Body since 2008. This is a great opportunity for our country to make decisions on the Organization's policy and the annual priority agenda," Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Alfonso Grados affirmed.
The government official leads the national delegation attending ILO's annual Conference, running thru June 16.
Peruvian representatives include Foreign Affairs and Labor and Employment Ministries, as well as Congress, Judicial Branch and business guilds.
The Inca nation thus becomes part of ILO's executive body, which meets three times a year to decide on ILO policy and the agenda of the International Labour Conference.
The
Governing Body also adopts the draft Programme and Budget of the Organization for submission to the Conference, and elects the Director-General.
Bilateral meetings
Peru's government official also met with Panamanian counterpart Luis Carles Rudy, who presides over the 106th ILC.
