Thousands of citizens comprising civil, military, academic, public and private institutions have taken to the streets of South-Andean Cusco to celebrate the Imperial City's jubilee month.
Crowds began to fill the streets with a joyful blend of sounds, colors and dances at 9:30 AM for a massive parade centered on Cusco's Main Square under beautiful blue skies.
Celebrations started with the arrival of Cusco Mayor Carlos Moscoso and fellow Municipality officials at the said Square carrying a Tahuantinsuyo (Inca Empire) flag.
Performers in colorful traditional costumes then poured in, dancing to Andean beats and offering a unique display of the country's Inca heritage for
domestic and foreign tourists. At around noon, Peruvian National Police and Army delegations joined the parade with well-choreographed eye-catching dances.
The activity gathers close to 300 organizations and institutions, an increase from previous editions, Municipal Company of Festivities in Cusco (Emufec) revealed.
Security of performers and public is guaranteed by fire brigades, Public Ministry officials and intelligence police agents.
