Peru congratulates Sebastian Piñera on Chilean election win

The Government of Peru conveyed its most cordial congratulations to Sebastian Piñera on his election as new President of Chile and wished him success in his new administration.

Likewise, it voiced a strong commitment to working together to deepen bilateral ties, with an eye to the future, so as to strengthen integration and cooperation in favor of both peoples' development. 

"Today, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski greeted Mr. Sebastian Piñera on his recent election as President of the Republic of Chile," said Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry in a Monday statement.


Piñera won Chile's presidential election on Sunday, December 17, defeating center-left challenger Alejandro Guillier.

According to electoral authorities, the conservative leader had 55% of the runoff vote, with 98% of ballots counted.
