The Government of Peru has strongly condemned North Korea's latest launch of a ballistic missile that flew over Japan's northern island.

In a release, the Foreign Affairs Ministry termed the launch as a violation of the United Nations Security Council's resolutions.

According to the Government, the threat requires a firm response from the international community.

"The Government of Peru reiterates its commitment to the implementation of sanctions imposed by such international body to ensure North Korea's international obligations in disarmament and nonproliferation are honored," reads the release.

Likewise, Peru expressed solidarity with the Japanese government and ratified its pledge to gear its diplomatic efforts towards the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council as of January 2018.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea on Tuesday fired a ballistic missile over Japan, amid tensions over Pyongyang's nuclear program.
