The Government of Peru on Tuesday said it strongly condemns the latest ballistic missile launched by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

According to the Andean nation, the act is a repeated violation of international law and the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In a release issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Peru said North Korea's provocative act puts at risk the peace and security of the international community.

In light of this, the South American country urged other UN members to apply and implement the sanctions imposed by the Security Council to put an end to North Korea's arms program.

"In the face of this increasing and unacceptable threat, the Government of Peru expresses its solidarity to the Governments and peoples of South Korea and Japan," reads the release.

Also, the Kuczynski administration "reaffirms its commitment to supporting UN Security Council's efforts to maintain stability and achieve denuclearization on the Korean peninsula," it added.

According to AFP, North Korea test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile on November 29, in a major challenge to US President Donald Trump after he slapped fresh sanctions on Pyongyang and declared it a State sponsor of terrorism.
