Peru arrives in New Zealand for World Cup-qualifying playoff

15:51 | Auckland (New Zealand), Nov. 6.

Following a 14-hour trip, Peru's national soccer squad today landed at Auckland Airport prior to the coming Russia 2018 qualifying playoff match against home-team New Zealand this weekend.

As is known, the Peruvian delegation on Monday morning left for New Zealand on a charter flight from Lima to play the most important match of a lifetime, which could earn it a ticket to the World Cup after 35 long years.

Upon arrival, the team was loudly welcomed by a considerable number of Peruvian fans who had shown up to the terminal to support their squad on the occasion.

The aircraft carrying the Red-White landed in Auckland on Tuesday 7 at around 08:45 AM (local time) (Monday 6 at 2:45 PM in Peru). Afterwards, the athletes went to the Rydges hotel.

They will be later joined by Europe-based Peruvian players Jefferson Farfan, Sergio Peña, Andre Carrillo, Miguel Trauco, and Edison Flores, who traveled on commercial flights from their cities of residence to the area.

The squad will start training sessions on Tuesday at 4:00 PM (local time) (Monday at 10:00 PM in Peru) at the Trusts and QBE Stadiums.

As is known, the Inca team will face New Zealand in the first leg of the Peru-New Zealand FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff tie in the coming days.

On Saturday 11, the Peruvians will take a charter flight to Wellington. The game will take place on that day at the city's Westpac Stadium at 4:15 PM local time (November 10 at 10:15 PM in Peru).
