Peru: Agro-exports totaled US$4.359 billion between Jan-Oct 2017

Peruvian agro-exports reached US$4.359 billion between January and October 2017, thus registering an 8% increase over the same period last year, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) reported Wednesday.

In this regard, Adex Agriculture Section Manager Paula Carrion pointed out agricultural shipments amounted to US$593.673 million, an 8% drop compared to the similar period in 2016 (US$645.212 million).

During the analyzed period, Peruvian agricultural products arrived in 55 countries, being the United States the main export destination (US$145.193 million), followed by Germany (US$125.419 million), and Belgium (US$54.172 million). 

Together, they received 54.7% of Peru's total agricultural shipments.

According to the Adex Data Trade Business Intelligence System, major export companies were Perales Huancaruna S.A.C., Olam Agro Perú S.A.C., Procesadora del Sur S.A., Compañía Internacional del Café S.A.C. and Cafetalera Amazónica S.A.C.

On the other hand, the farming and agro-industrial subsector reached US$3.945 billion during the first 10 months of 2017, thus registering a 10.8% increase from the same period last year.

Such expansion was mainly underpinned by higher shipments of avocados (+45.2%), grapes (4.1%), blueberries (48.8%), and animal feed (43.1%).

Within this framework, the United States (US$1.208 billion) and the Netherlands (US$640.9 million) stood out as main target markets by receiving 46.8% of total shipments.

Other top destinations for Peruvian products were Egypt (+536.8%), Croatia (+369.9%), and Algeria (+256.9%). 

Countries such as Spain, Ecuador, the United Kingdom, Chile, and China offer a great potential to said products due to their healthy eating trends.
