Peru's agro-exports (both traditional and non-traditional) reached US$1.50 billion between January and April 2017, a 5% increase from the same period last year, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (ADEX) revealed.
Traditional
agricultural shipments totaled US$112.52 million (+6.4%), underpinned by the recovery of coffee (US$77.80 million; +7%), which also accounted for 69.1% of total shipments.
It was followed by various sugar types, non-carded wool, cane sugar, leathers and bovine fur.
From a total of 41 target markets, the five leading ones were the United States (US$22.10 million) and Belgium (US$14.89 million). Together, they accounted for 32.8% of the total.
It must be noted
shipments to Spain and India grew 58.3% and 51.8%, respectively.
Among products holding the top positions, grapes, mangoes, avocados and fresh asparagus stood out.
According to Adex Agro-exports department, grapes (US$239 million) and mangoes (US$136 million) saw increases of 22.6% and 7.5%, respectively. Avocados experienced a 10.1% growth.
