Peruvian agro-exports —traditional and non-traditional— to Indonesia totaled US$9,381,000 in the first half of the year, a 261% rise over the same period in 2016, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) reported.
According to ADEX Data Trade,
farming and agro-industrial industries accounted for 52.4% of total exports. The principal shipments were grapes and
cacao.
A base for drinks, citrus juices, Andean grains such as quinoa and chia, as well as canned pomegranates and tomatoes also stood out.
According to Juan Carlos Valdivia, head at Peru's Trade Office in Indonesia (Ocex Jakarta), the two countries have not reached a trade agreement yet, but business opportunities are numerous.
"Fresh fruits, for instance, benefit us due to the weather on the coast, and this is something we must take advantage of," he said.
Speaking at a conference on food market in
Indonesia, Valdivia affirmed the Inca nation could dispatch fresh and processed products, chocolate and others of
hydro biological origin, as well as accessories for women, handicrafts, leather sandals and mining equipment to the Asian market.
