According to Varilias, agro-exports amounted to US$5.9 billion and captivated 145 countries last year.

Said projection was based on the expansion of the cultivated area.

"Planted over the past three years, crops have begun to yield produce, such as blueberries, citrus fruits, avocados, grapes, and mangoes," the official explained.

Decentralized jobs

Varilias also underlined the agro-export sector's contribution to the creation of formal and decentralized jobs across the Inca country.

In addition, he said the number of farmworkers with health insurance increased from 33,000 in 1999 to 330,000 in 2018.

"Over the past 19 years, agro-exports have grown nine-fold, and labor formalization has multiplied by 14 [...]," Varilias remarked.

Moreover, Adex head stated the agro-export sector employs a total of 1,495,000 people and expressed optimism in achieving the goal of US$10 billion by 2021.
