The Peruvian State will demand S/3.468 billion (about US$1.08 billion) in damages from Brazilian builder Odebrecht, Peru's Ad Hoc Attorney to the Odebrecht graft case Jorge Ramirez announced.
"The sum reaches S/3,468,511,217 for three projects: the
Southern Gas Pipeline, Chacas Highway in Ancash [region], and the South Interoceanic Highway [stretches 2-3]," Ramirez told Cuarto Poder local news program.
In the case of the Southern Gas Pipeline, awarded during the administration of jailed former President
Ollanta Humala (2011-2016), the State Attorney's Office has calculated S/1.482 billion (about US$461 million) in damages.
Regarding Chacas Highway, awarded by former Ancash Governor Cesar Alvarez, the amount to be requested is S/248 million (about US$77 million).
As for the South Interoceanic Highway (stretches 2-3), a project awarded during the administration of fugitive ex-President
Alejandro Toledo (2001-2006), damages amount to S/1.736 billion (about US$540 million).
"We expect the Odebrecht company to change its attitude, they cannot possibly be offering US$66 million in damages. I think they must reflect on the matter and, if they want to make amends, I hope they will come up with a higher sum," Ramirez added.
