More than 6,000 New Zealand citizens annually enter and leave Peru to discover the Inca country's tourist destinations, the National Superintendence of Migration reported Monday.

Such figure has been gradually increasing over the past five years and is also expected to exceed 7,000 this year.

As is known, Peru and New Zealand are members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

In this sense, trade and tourist flow see a growth potential ahead.

Within this framework, the National Superintendence of Migration also informed that 41 New Zealand citizens rely on resident status in Peru.

15 of them have migrant worker visa, 8 are immigrants, 6 belong to a religious mission, and 12 are relatives of residents.

It must be noted only one New Zealander has been granted Peruvian citizenship. That person is married to a natural-born citizen.

Concerning air transportation, there are currently no direct flights between Lima and Wellington (or vice-versa).

The only available air routes are those with stops in Santiago (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Los Angeles (United States).
