The 8th Summit of the Americas and its preparation process in Peru will provide a space to reflect on democratic governance and how it is affected by corruption, one of the most serious scourges hitting many countries.
According to Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry, the event will serve as a framework to address new concrete measures —that can be adopted to fight impunity— with the help of regional cooperation.
Heads of States and dignitaries —who attended the 7th Summit of the Americas back in April 2015— unanimously decided Peru would assume the Presidency of the Summit Process, which may come to an end on the 8th edition.
Thus, the Inca country deems the upcoming event as an opportunity to relaunch the Summit process.
The
Summit of the Americas is the result of a complex process featuring sectoral and ministerial official meetings, as well as gatherings of civil society, business, and regional academy sectors.
