Copper was Peru's dominant export product in the first five-month period of 2017, amounting to US$5.010 billion in sales and accounting for 30% of total shipments, National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE) reported.
Between January and May this year, the value of Peru's exports stood at US$16.743 billion.
Also, sales of
copper, gold and zinc added up to US$8.773 billion, making up 52% of the total.
On the other hand, sales of US$5.010 billion represented a 38.1% increase compared to Jan-May 2016 (US$3.628 billion).
Major markets for Peruvian
copper exports were China, Japan, South Korea, India, among others.
Gold
According to SNMPE,
gold shipments rose to US$2.910 billion, up 6% from a similar period last year (US$2.810 billion).
Switzerland, the United States, India and Canada were the main markets for such sales.
Zinc
Zinc shipments, on the other hand, amounted to US$853 million, recording a growth of 70.4% over the same period a year before (US$501 million).
The largest export markets for Peruvian zinc included China, South Korea, Spain, Brazil and Spain.
