The Economic Leaders' Week of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will take place in Peru from November 10 to 16, said Ambassador Carlos Vasquez, 2024 Chair of APEC Senior Officials' Meetings (SOM).

Moreover, Ambassador Vasquez told Andina news agency that this bloc of meetings involves the summit that will bring together leaders of the 21 APEC economies, who will approve the joint statement.

"This Week includes the conclusive meeting of senior officials, in order to finish negotiating and writing the statement to be adopted by the leaders of the Asia-Pacific economies. It will also include a joint Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the dialogue between the leaders and private sector entrepreneurs, and finally, the leaders' meeting itself," he said.

The SOM chair remarked that there is great expectation for the participation of APEC economies' leaders, including Heads of State and Government of the most important countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

He also underscored that Peru, which has assumed the APEC 2024 presidency, is assessing when to send out the invitations to APEC leaders.

"This usually occurs between May and June, and they are confirmed in September," Vasquez stated.

Furthermore, he noted that most APEC leaders, virtually all, participated in previous summit meetings.

"I estimate that we will also estimate a fairly important attendance of leaders this year," the SOM chair added.
