OAS: President Vizcarra has allowed Peruvians to regain confidence

00:05 | Lima, Apr. 4.

New President Martin Vizcarra has allowed Peruvians to regain confidence in politics, Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary-General Luis Almagro affirmed on Tuesday.

As is known, Vizcarra took office on March 23, after his predecessor Pedro Pablo Kuczynski resigned in the face of a second impeachment vote and amid a political crisis.

"We recognize President Martin Vizcarra for restoring the political trust of Peruvians and having put political and institutional stability back on track, key to the economic and social development of Peru and the success of the Summit of the Americas," Almagro expressed in this sense.

Days ago, the Head of State underlined various leaders had already confirmed their participation in the regional event.

Likewise, the OAS official recognized the solid agenda of the new administration "with clear objectives on institutional strengthening, economic growth and fighting corruption, central themes of the upcoming Summit."

Via Twitter, he also informed OAS and Peru have pledged to continue improving cooperation on issues related to institutional dialogue and justice.

Almagro arrived in Lima for a brief official visit within the framework of preparations for the 8th Summit of the Americas taking place in the Peruvian capital city on April 13 and 14.

At this event, the Heads of State and Government of the region will adopt specific commitments on the theme "Democratic Governance against Corruption."
