The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, stated on Tuesday that her government is working to provide Peruvian National Police (PNP) members with better tools and legal protection to ensure the proper performance of their duties.

The top official made this statement during the ceremony recognizing PNP General Oscar Arriola as the new General Commander of the institution, replacing General PNP Victor Zanabria.

After thanking the outgoing General Commander for his work, she told Arriola that the nation today places a vote of confidence in him, entrusting him with the leadership of an institution responsible for the safety of millions of households.

The President indicated that, for this reason, the Executive Branch is working to provide them with better tools for their daily work, improved and new infrastructure nationwide, as well as "full legal and judicial protection and the respect they deserve."

"We are here to provide (the police members) with full legal and judicial protection and the respect they deserve. In our government, we defend those who protect us, those who risk their lives for the safety of our entire homeland," Mrs. Boluarte stated.

The Head of State said the new PNP General Commander also has the fundamental duty to fight crime and organized crime, as she urged Arriola to take a tough stance against this social scourge.

In this regard, President Boluarte mentioned the importance of maintaining the trust the country has gained abroad to attract investments.

Likewise, the top official said that her administration will not allow it to be affected by certain groups.

"Let us unite in that red-and-white embrace that should fill us with pride and dignity. And if you have any grievances with the government, we are here to talk. But do not set a bad example for your children, your siblings, or your neighbors by destroying public or private property. That is not the way to engage in dialogue," she added.

"This government has always worked with open doors. It has never refused dialogue to anyone," Mrs. Boluarte then said.

Lastly, the President told the PNP members that they must wear their uniform with dignity, pride, and commitment.

"If you notice among your colleagues any bad police agents who may be going down the wrong path, do not hesitate to file the appropriate report, because we must remove those bad agents from this noble institution that fills us with pride," she concluded.
