Peruvian Machu Picchu and Cusco's historic center —both included in the UNESCO World Heritage List— were used as locations for the movie
"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" along with the city of Tarapoto, in the jungle region of San Martin, which will shine worldwide.
"Our world heritage sites are the locations of one of the most important sagas in world cinema! Machu Picchu and Cusco's historic center, in addition to San Martin (region), are part of 'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,' another reason for pride!" the Ministry of Culture posted on Twitter.
Thus, with the premiere of the Paramount production —directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback— Peru will be in the global spotlight once again.
Reason for pride
The settings in the regions of Cusco and San Martin were chosen for the mysticism and majesty that surround them, "another reason for pride," the Ministry of Culture said.
The film's director pointed out that this mega-production was filmed on top of Machu Picchu, "where no one has ever filmed before. We just thought: Wow! We are here, how did they do this? it's crazy," he said.
"The clouds brushed against the mountains. It was a beautiful experience. Yes, it was magical," Caple added.
U.S. actor Anthony Ramos found that participating in the seventh installment of this movie franchise was "a gift and we do not take it lightly [...]" after affirming that one can "feel a totally different energy in Machu Picchu."
Optimus Prime, a new Peruvian national
Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, has declared himself a new Peruvian national and left a warm message to all Transformers' fans, who are counting down the hours to watch the movie.
"Our lives are linked by an unbreakable bond, and I thank everyone in Machu Picchu for making their city our home. Let's celebrate this union bond by watching Transformers: Rise of the Beasts," Optimus Prime said.
It should be noted that the film is scheduled to be released in Peru on June 7, 2023, and will arrive in U.S. theatres on June 9, 2023.
