Peru Gov't gives priority boost to Work for Taxes scheme

14:21 | Lima, Jan. 30.

President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski claimed his Government prioritizes the Works for Taxes mechanism as he granted a plot of land for the construction of Hospital Papa Francisco (Pope Francis) in Pachacamac district's Manchay area under said scheme.

During a ceremony along with Health Minister Abel Salinas, the statesman said a portion of private sector companies' profits will be set aside for social work and to speed up implementation of investments all over the country.

The aforementioned construction project will be carried out under Works for Taxes and run by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) in partnership with companies promoting and financing such type of works.

"Works for Taxes, that's what they do. We are talking about large companies that allocate part of their profits to social work. This really is a high priority driven by our Government," Mr. Kuczynski expressed.

He said the land —on which the new hospital will be built— must provide basic security measures and include walls as a precautionary measure, in case of possible floods and landslides.

Another core feature of this hospital, he said, will be its simple and accessible user experience, meaning the place shall include operative equipment and elevators to reach the highest floors and provide a 24-hour services schedule for patients.
