During the inauguration of the 21st Bicentennial School "Manuel Gonzalez Prada" in Lima's eastern Ate district,
on Tuesday stated that investment in education is key to building a solid and promising future for Peru.
"As a government, we will continue making efforts every day. We will not be delayed, held back, or stagnate because of any situation that the news reports. We offer jobs, and here we are. Education is not an expense for us; we will not spare a single Sol (Peruvian currency) if we want better education," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.
She said that one of her government's priorities is education, which is why they made a shock investment worth over S/7 billion (above US$1.874 billion) to build 75 Bicentennial Schools, 26 modular educational institutions, restore learning facilities' residences, and construct another 16 academic centers under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, in addition to those being built by the National Infrastructure Authority.
"We will probably not finish inaugurating in January or February, before classes start. Time doesn't matter; what matters is that we are delivering schools with high-tech equipment for students," she said.
When her term in office ends on July 28, 2026 -according to Mrs. Boluarte- 50,000 Beca 18 scholarships will be awarded to change the lives of students, far more than the 5,000 grants this program offered when her administration began.
Likewise, she stated that teachers have been taken care of, with S/3.7 billion (about US$991 million) allocated to pay the social benefits of 253,000 instructors and assistants; the payment of temporary allowances for 440,000 educators and assistants; and the settlement of the social debt with 51,000 auxiliary teachers in basic and technical vocational education.
More Bicentennial Schools
The president indicated that the Manuel Gonzalez Prada educational institution, which is part of the 21 Bicentennial Schools inaugurated to date, will benefit more than 3,000 students in early education, primary, and secondary levels, thanks to an investment worth over S/165 million (above US$44 million)
In Lima's Ate district alone, six Bicentennial Schools have been delivered, benefiting over 49,000 pupils, with an investment of S/2.2 billion (about US$589 million). The goal for 2025 is to deliver 44 more such educational centers, Mrs. Boluarte said.
"We do it with clean hands; we do not steal a single Sol from the Peruvian people. We will be delivering 75 Bicentennial Schools to benefit more than 118,000 students in Metropolitan Lima and 9 regions of the country," she added.
The President explained that Bicentennial Schools not only offer courses in mathematics, history, and geography but also provide training for technical careers such as metalworking, clothing, silkscreen printing, and crafts, among others.
