Peru's mining and hydrocarbons sector expanded 6.24% in June 2017 over the same month last year, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Tuesday.

The positive outcome was underpinned by greater production of the metal-mining (+6.86%) and hydrocarbons (+2.52%) subsectors.

In the metal-mining subsector, higher production of molybdenum (+55%), zinc (+13.5%), iron (+11.6%), silver (+10.8%), lead (+10.6%), tin (+9.4%) and copper (+1.7%) was registered.

The hydrocarbons subsector expanded 2.52%, boosted by increased production of crude oil (+20.2%). However, a drop was recorded in the output of natural gas liquids (-1.3%) and natural gas (-4.8%).

Likewise, the electricity sector grew 3.55% in the analyzed month.
