The State-run Decentralized Culture Directorate of Cusco (DDCC) confirmed the upcoming presence of a UNESCO Reactive Monitoring mission in the southern region to assess the state of conservation of Peru's Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
Said delegation will be composed of four supervisors led by a World Heritage Centre representative, DDCC Head Vidal Pino informed.
"They will receive reports on the actions taken to redress the five observations made [by UNESCO]," he said.
Documents and measures implemented to harmonize legislative frameworks and strengthen Machu Picchu's governance mechanisms will be presented on February 22-23 at DDCC headquarters.
Machu Picchu's management, public use plan, carrying capacity of the Sanctuary, risk reduction and disaster recovery plan, as well as urban planning will also be assessed.
"These five observations have been fully raised. That's what we are going to show to the UNESCO mission," Pino assured.
On February 24, the international delegation will arrive in Machu Picchu for an in-situ inspection.
"We are confident we will manage to definitely overcome the risk of Machu Picchu being included in the List of World Heritage in Danger, which was latent a few years ago," he anticipated.
