Peru’s northern Lambayeque region expects to welcome a total of 900,000 tourists until year-end, Lambayeque Regional Foreign Trade and Tourism Management (Gercetur) projected.
The amount includes national and foreign visitors, and denotes a 30% increase from the same period last year.
Between January and August, 630,000 visitors arrived in the northern area.
"The goal is to border one million tourists in 2017," Gercetur Chairman Lindon Vela affirmed.
Vela mentioned tourism promotion campaigns are not only launched in Lambayeque, but also in Lima. Likewise, officials travel overseas to promote visits to the aforementioned region.
"It [tourism promotion] will contribute to increasing the number of foreign tourists, and we have to adapt to the goal set by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski: to double the number of visitors," Vela pointed out.
As is known, the Head of State expects Peru to welcome 7 million tourists by 2021.
Within the framework of World Tourism Day, a launching ceremony was held in Lambayeque to present main tourism products: Forests and Pyramids located in the area.
Vela stressed the said product comprises Pomac Forest's Historical Sanctuary and the Archaeological Site of Sican hosting 36 pyramids, as well as forest species.
