A survey by Talk Shoppe showed that 64% of Peruvians feel that YouTube offers them personally relevant content, thus translating to more watch time, which saw a 30% growth in the last year.

On the other hand, there was a 220% increase in the number of video content hours uploaded to the platform. Besides, there are 80 channels with over 1 million subscribers in Peru.

At the regional level, 86% of respondents in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico indicated that they have increased their usage of YouTube since the beginning of the COVID-19 emergency.

Another trend that is directly related to the impacts of the pandemic is the use of TV as the fastest growing device when it comes to watching videos on YouTube.

For instance, there was a 250% growth in the number of hours of live content watched on TV screens in March.

Learning at home

Around the world, videos "for beginners" have attracted more than 3 billion views since March, while gardening-related content —including words like "growing," "garden," and "at home"— has been viewed more than 26 million times.

In addition to helping build new gardens, YouTube also played a role in preparing people to leave their homes, with more than 400 million views of video tutorials worldwide on how to make and use "face masks."

This data shows how people are using YouTube to solve the unexpected problems in 2020.

This is reflected in the surveys, where 47% of Peruvians expect to continue using the platform more than they did before.
