World surfing champions confirmed for Lima 2019 Pan Am Games

The International Surfing Association (ISA) has confirmed the names of five world surfing champions at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

The outstanding athletes will compete for gold to earn a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. 

One of them is Peruvian Benoit "Piccolo" Clemente, who is also a Lima 2019 Ambassador

The official list, released by ISA, also includes Santiago Muñiz (Argentina), Tia Blanco (Puerto Rico), Candice Appleby (USA), and Luiz Diniz (Brazil).

A total of 88 surfers will take on the waves of the Peruvian coast on July 29th when the surf competitions begin on the Punta Rocas Beach.

The athletes qualified for the Pan American Games through a process established by ISA and the Pan American Surf Association (PASA).

Ten surfers will be responsible for defending the colors of the Inca country: Lucca Mesinas, Alonso Correa, Daniela Rosas, Melanie Giunta, Benoit Clemente, Maria Fernanda Reyes, Tamil Martino, Vania Torres, Itzel Delgado, and Giannisa Vecco. 

Works kick off

After the official list was published, Lima 2019 organizers confirmed the beginning of refurbishment and adaptation works in Punta Negra district. 

A High Performance Center (CAR) will be built to further enhance this discipline.
