US Ambassador to Peru Rose M. Likins confirmed Friday that US government will provide a US$85 million cooperation to Peru to fund alternative cultivation programs, as part of Peru's strategy in the struggle against drug trafficking.

“Our plan for next year is to provide US$85 million under the concept of bilateral cooperation. We are very focused on the projects that we are executing and we will continue with these programs,” she said.

Participanting in the 48th Annual Conference of Executives, CADE 2010, the US diplomat was present at the stand of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) where some products obtained by alternative cultivation were exhibited.

Likins said that US government will keep all the programs that have reached positive results so far to keep farmers apart from illegal cultivations.

In that sense, the diplomat described as excellent the collaboration between her government and Peru in the struggle against drug trafficking.
