The health crisis caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) strengthened the United Kingdom's commitment to Peru's health and reinforced the relationship between both countries, with the firm intention to support those most in need during the pandemic.

In this sense, the British values such as transparency, sustainability, as well as a culture of cooperation, technology, and innovation, help develop resilience for the future and address today's immediate challenge: COVID-19.

Joint efforts

British Ambassador to Peru Kate Harrisson noted that the coronavirus pandemic is the principal challenge faced by nations around the world.

"We must work together to cope with it. I am delighted that British companies lend Peru a hand in such a complicated moment," the diplomatic representative stated.

"They (the British companies) are a good example of the spirit of solidarity and cooperation involving the relationship between the United Kingdom and Peru," she added.

In addition, HM Trade Commissioner for Latin America and the Caribbean Joanna Crellin remarked that the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and its impacts will require a global response. Therefore, it is important for the United Kingdom to work with its partners in Latin America and the Caribbean.

"In Peru, we have worked together to identify the areas of cooperation in the health and infrastructure sectors, by providing goods and services to support Peruvians in the fight and adaptation to the pandemic," she explained.
