UK Embassy greets Peruvian President Castillo on start of his term in office

British Ambassador to Lima Kate Harrisson has greeted and congratulated Peruvian President Pedro Castillo after his inauguration, expressing her wishes to further strengthen the relationship between both countries.

Via Twitter, the diplomat said that she also delivered a message sent by Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.

"I had the opportunity to greet and congratulate President Pedro Castillo and Vice-President Dina Boluarte in person; I expressed my wishes to further strengthen the Peru-UK relationship. Additionally, I conveyed the message of congratulations sent by Her Majesty the Queen," Harrisson remarked.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday evening was greeted by leaders of foreign missions, as well as national authorities, high military commanders, representatives of business guilds, and relatives —after having taken office earlier that day.

Mr. Castillo was sworn in as President of the Republic for the 2021-2026 term in a solemn session held at Congress headquarters on Wednesday.

Thus, he succeeds ex-President Francisco Sagasti, who had taken office in November 2020 to lead the Transition and Emergency Government until July 28, 2021.
