Six-month-old baby girl beats COVID-19 in Peru

11:30 | Lima, Apr. 28.

A six-month-old baby is probably the youngest person in Peru to beat COVID-19. She was discharged after 23 days in two hospitals battling the virus, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Tuesday.

The baby received specialized care at Lima's San Bartolome Hospital and Villa El Salvador Emergency Hospital.

On April 2, she was admitted to the pediatric emergency area with acute respiratory failure and, after clinical evaluation, was referred to the differentiated care service area for COVID-19 patients, where she underwent the diagnostic test that yielded the positive result.

The little fighter spent 13 critical days at San Bartolome Hospital, where she was treated by pediatric intensivists, pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, as well as nurses who aided her recovery.

After that, the minor was referred to Villa El Salvador Emergency Hospital, where she received care as well.

After a week in said hospital, she was referred back to San Bartolome Hospital, where she completed the treatment, showed improvement, and was discharged.

The health workers —who day after day strive to beat this deadly disease— bid farewell to the baby girl with applause.
