President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday affirmed that Peruvians do know how to face great challenges like those posed by the pandemic and the reactivation of the economy, which in August —according to projections— recorded an expansion that exceeded estimates made by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

The Head of State remarked that the economic situation in the country is improving.

On the other hand, he recalled that his Government restricted productive activities in April because —due to the pandemic— emphasis was placed on Peruvians' health and life.

Afterwards, in a responsible manner, the Executive Branch decided to initiate the economic reactivation process in June.

"In June, we decided to recover the economy, and in July the recovery continued. The August growth figures are satisfactory and better than those projected by MEF, which means Peruvians do know how to face the great challenges," the statesman expressed.

"We are facing the pandemic and we are beating it. The economy is recovering nationwide with the implementation of large, medium, and small projects," he added.

The Peruvian leader noted that his administration focuses on three priorities. The first one is to continue the fight against the pandemic. "Even though the figures have improved, the virus is still in our midst, we cannot be triumphalist," he said.

Second, it is necessary to reactivate the economy so as to create jobs and well-being for the population

The third priority, he said, is to ensure the holding of free and transparent elections in April next year.

Remarks were made as he launched the real estate project "Nuevo Nogales" in Lima's El Agustino district.
