Peru's President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski will work to increase Peru's copper smelting capacity required to export such metal —instead of merely concentrate— to target market China.

"Thus, I’m traveling to China in a couple weeks; my first trip overseas is neither to the United States nor to Europe. It is to China, which is the country that purchases most of Peruvian products [...],” the Head of State affirmed.

Furthermore, the economist will encourage the construction of a petrochemical plant in Arequipa region. It will produce fertilizers by using natural gas.

According to Mr. Kuczynski, other major projects will allow Arequipa to become Southern Peru’s top productive center.
