Peruvian candidate to become the Organization of American States (OAS) new Secretary-General Hugo de Zela on Wednesday met with Saint Lucia top authorities as part of his tour of Caribbean countries.
In Saint Lucia, De Zela had a long meeting with
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and Foreign Affairs Minister Sarah Flood-Beaubrun, with whom he shared views on ways to renew and strengthen the effective role of the organization.
The Peruvian candidacy is intended to contribute to the strengthening of
the continental organization, as a body for dialogue and creator of consensus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Another objective is to find effective solutions to the principal conflicts in the Western Hemisphere.
The OAS Secretary-General election will be held on March 20, 2020.
