Peruvian Ambassador Valdez passes away in Chile

18:18 | Lima, Jan. 26.

Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported on the passing away of Ambassador Jorge Valdez Carrillo, which occurred Sunday in Santiago (Chile), where he was close to completing his duties as head of the national diplomatic legation in the neighboring country.

Once the news was known, Foreign Affairs Minister Gustavo Meza-Cuadra expressed his deepest condolences to the wife, children, grandchildren, and other relatives of the diplomat.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Ambassador Valdez was "one of the most distinguished members of the diplomatic service, who had great professional and personal qualities, in addition to being a connoted academician."

He served as Deputy Minister Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations, and head of Mission to the European Union.

In addition, he was Ambassador of Peru to South Africa, Belgium, Luxembourg, and —recently— Chile, where he had an outstanding performance.

"The Foreign Ministry is grieving and conveys its deepest condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, and other relatives," said a statement from Torre Tagle Palace.
