Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Friday inspected the progress of Lima Metro Line 2 works at the workshop area located in Lima's Santa Anita district.

Mr. Vizcarra emphasized that this is one of the largest works aimed at improving urban traffic in the capital city.

As he remarked, all the necessary efforts are being made to overcome the project's initial obstacles and to meet the deadlines.

The plan, he said, is to put the completed stages at the service of citizens, and not necessarily to wait until the entire length of the route (35 kilometers) is finished.

In addition to this mega-project, he stated, other works are being carried out, such as the second runway at Jorge Chavez International Airport, its air traffic control tower, and Chancay Port.

Moreover, the President noted that other minor but important works are being implemented without ignoring the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the numbers of new cases, deaths, and hospitalizations are still going down.

The Peruvian leader affirmed that his administration also works on the political aspect, seeking consensus with the Congress of the Republic, in order to address issues such as debt refinancing and the National Pension System.

On the other hand, the statesman reported that the eradication of illegal coca leaf crops started today, within the framework of the fight against drug trafficking.

"We are working on all aspects. This is a government that works hard, despite the pandemic. We have not stopped a single day," he added.
