Peru's President: Crisis affects the most vulnerable population

"This is a crisis that is unprecedented in history, the magnitude of which does not only cover the health sector, since its shock wave reaches all strata of national life: the economy, employment, education, but —above all— it affects the most vulnerable citizens," he expressed.

"During these five months we have faced together, with efforts and sacrifice, one of the worst threats to the health of all Peruvians," he said.

In this sense, the top official regretted that thousands of compatriots have died victims of the disease, many children have become orphans, and plenty of families suffer today the pain, as well as economic and social consequences of the pandemic.

"In the face of this enormous challenge, only unity, efforts and the responsibility of all will allow us to overcome the common enemy, protect the most precious thing that is the life and health of the population, re-boost the economy, generate jobs and restore the faith, as well as the confidence of the Peruvian people," he emphasized.

Remarks were made prior to the beginning of a new Council of Ministers session, which was also led by new Prime Minister Walter Martos.
