Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Tuesday asked citizens to stay calm and let the National Election Board (JNE) finish its work regarding the presidential runoff election process.

During her participation in the handover ceremony of a cryogenic oxygen plant, which will be sent to Pacasmayo city in La Libertad region, Bermudez emphasized that the election was supervised by national and international observers.

The Cabinet chief noted that the Transparency Civil Association, the Ombudsman's Office, as well as observation missions of the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union, among others, issued reports providing details on incidents, but "not on fraud."

"I call on citizens to maintain tranquility and to obtain information from reliable sources because there is malicious information out there. I ask you to stay calm and let the National Election Board (JNE) finish its work," she said.

In addition, she assured that "there is no evidence" of suspicion of an irregularly serious situation during the election and stressed the need to base our analysis on reports from experts, "who supervised the election and indicated that it occurred uneventfully."

Bermudez affirmed that the Government acts with complete neutrality and described as false the information on alleged invitations to candidates who participated in the runoff election.

She lamented that a person —who was identified as a journalist— has recorded a conversation with a Minister of State without permission to obtain information regarding a false news story.
