Peru wins first medal at Lima 2019 Parapan American Games

17:13 | Lima, Aug. 24.

Luis Sandoval (PER) claimed the Para athletics silver medal in the men's 5000m T11 final at Lima 2019 Parapan American Games on Saturday.

The event took place at the Athletics Stadium at the National Sports Village (VIDENA).

Sandoval earned second place following the disqualification of Rosbil Guillen, another Peruvian.

Guillen was disqualified after he dropped the rope before reaching the finish line.

He had a considerable advantage over his Ecuadorian opponent, which had given him a comfortable victory.

As a consequence, the Ecuadorian Darwin Castro took the gold medal and Sandoval climbed up to the second spot.

This is Peru's first medal at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
