Peru's Special Olympics Association was created in 1986 and is present in 12 regions.

It should be noted this organization does not receive support from the State. Thus, it is self-funding.

Its goal is to provide training and athletic competition the whole year in a variety of sports for people with intellectual disabilities.

Over 8,000 athletes are part of this institution.
