Peru: Trade balance records surplus for 15 consecutive quarters

17:08 | Lima, May. 26.

Peru's annualized trade balance reached 15 consecutive quarters of surplus, accumulating US$5.86 billion in the first quarter of 2020, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Tuesday.

"After the slight recovery in the trade surplus over the last two quarters of 2019, a lower balance is registered due to the negative impact of the (COVID-19) pandemic on local and global economic activity, and on the terms of trade," the issuing entity explained.

Likewise, the BCR highlighted that —in the first quarter of 2020— the trade balance registered a surplus of US$529 million. Within this framework, exports amounted to US$9.717 billion, whereas imports totaled US$9.188 billion.
