13:56 | Asuncion (Paraguay), Oct. 8.

Peru's national soccer team on Thursday afternoon will play its opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifiers against Paraguay.

Slated for 5:30 p.m. (Peruvian time), the game will be held at Defensores del Chaco Stadium in Asuncion, Paraguay.

The Incas —under the command of their coach Ricardo Gareca— seek a victory to start their road to the World Cup on the right foot.

This first set of matches marks an atypical start of the World Cup Qualifiers since this is the first time that the five games will be played without fans, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.

There are a few absences in the red-white squad, such as Edison Flores, Yordy Reyna, and Alexander Callens, who play in the Major League Soccer (MLS) and whose clubs did not allow them to join the national team in this game.

A few days later —on October 13— Peru will face Brazil in the Peruvian capital Lima.
