Match between Peru and Venezuela ended in a 2-2 draw on Thursday during the fifth round of the South American qualifiers.

Both teams needed to get a victory to keep their hope of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Venezuela was first on the scoreboard with a goal at 30 minutes from Romulo Otero. About 28 minutes later, the visitors managed to score their second goal thanks to Mikel Villanueva.

Paolo Guerrero scored the first Peruvian goal at 70 minutes and Raul Rudiaz did the same at 90+4.

Guerrero highlighted the attitude of Peruvian players who managed to achieve a draw in the last minute.

“People might say we didn't play well, but they should also admit we never gave up. Young players came in during the second half of the match, and that was our chance to score,” Guerrero stated.

On the other hand, Venezuelan coach Noel Sanvicente expressed his sadness, as he said his team did a good job. However, it was not enough to get their first victory in the qualifiers.

The game took place last night at the National Stadium in Lima, Peru.

Peruvians will head to Montevideo to face their Uruguayan counterparts in the sixth round on March 29.
