Peru: Tax provisions to boost economic recovery

09:59 | Lima, May. 15.

The Peruvian Government has issued legislative decrees in tax matters oriented to the economic containment phase and to support the reactivation process during a post-coronavirus stage.

In the pandemic containment phase, tax relief will be provided for companies to continue their productive, commercial, or services-related activities, Public Income Policy General Director at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) Marco Camacho said.

"The size of companies is not being considered in most of the measures, because we are aware that productive units are affected by the health emergency regardless of their income level," he told El Peruano official gazette.

The government official explained that companies are not discriminated —except in some cases— because of their economic sectors since they were all impacted by this situation.

"The five measures meet the planned objectives, provide tax relief, and encourage investment. Besides, they allow companies to start generating income as soon as possible by accessing more liquidity," he stressed.

Camacho explained that another goal is to encourage companies to invest at the moment so that they can improve their cash flow in the future. All this will serve as a good basis to support the economic reactivation process to be implemented by the Government.

"In 2021, we want companies to start the year on the right foot, productive activity to become more dynamic, and revenue to go hand in hand with the reactivation," he emphasized.
