The Government of Peru has expressed its support to the resolutions adopted by the
UN Human Rights Council on the human right to a safe, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, as well as to equal participation in public and political affairs.
Peru's position was communicated during its participation in the 48th regular session of the Human Rights Council.
Peru and other 50 countries voted in favor of this resolution, which is framed by the Constitution, which also recognizes people's right to a balanced and adequate environment for their personal development.
In addition, it is in harmony with the Protocol of San Salvador, to which Peru is a signatory country. Said protocol states that everyone shall have the right to live in a healthy environment and to have access to basic public services.
Likewise, the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on equal participation in public and political affairs, presented by Peru, Czech Republic, Botswana, Indonesia, and the Netherlands.
Such resolution stresses the crucial importance of full and effective citizen participation in public and political affairs for democracy, the rule of law, social inclusion, economic growth, sustainable development, promotion of gender equality, and for the achievement of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.
