Peru sees over US$300 million in commitments at European food fair

16:01 | Paris (France), Nov. 9.

Peruvian companies' participation in the Global Food Marketplace (SIAL) generated trade commitments worth over US$300 million, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has informed.

The fair took place in Paris on October 21-25 and welcomed over 155,000 attendees.

The most demanded products were canned artichokes, ajies (Peruvian hot peppers), peppers, and frozen fruits. Furthermore, walnuts were featured at the gathering for the first time.

Underpinned by this demand, initial projections were exceeded by 30%.

The buyers —who visited the Inca country's stand— mainly came from France, Belgium, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, as well as from Asian nations.

Likewise, the 38 Peruvian companies were introduced alongside Pacific Alliance representatives —from Mexico, Colombia, and Chile— which drew the attention of thousands of visitors.

It should be noted Agroindustrias Amazonicas, Sociedad Agricola Viru, Danper, Cosecha de Oro, and Caynarachi's products were showcased at the SIAL Innovation displays.

Moreover, a Peruvian food demonstration was shown in "La Cuisine," a television program produced and directed by the fair organizers.

This initiative is one of the activities carried out by PromPeru as part of a strategy aimed at doubling agro-exports, in accordance with the National Strategic Exports Plan (PENX).

Peru's Trade Office (Ocex) based in Paris supported the Inca participation at this event.
