Leading UK magazine Stylist has named Lima, Peru, one of "the ten locations where the culinary-minded should be heading this year."
According to Stylist's 10 holidays for the food obsessed list, Peru is Latin America’s most gourmet cuisine, with a growing presence in London.
"Peru's unusual native ingredients – maca root, jumbo corn, aji peppers and yellow potatoes – loaded with bold flavours, as with chilli-sauce topped anticuchos (skewered meat) or cuy (guinea pig), tastes all the better on its home turf," reads a description of Peruvian cuisine.
The article also notes that "Peru’s economy has been steadily building and with this new confidence clearly illustrated in the gentrified, vibrant cities, traditional Peruvian food has found its way out of the homestead and into the restaurants."
Other destinations in the list include Hue, Vietnam; Norfolk, England; Istria, Croatia; Oregon, USA; Central and North Sri Lanka; Central Sweden (Jämtland); Puerto Rico; Coastal Lebanon; and Navarra, Spain.
