Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group member Prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez on Monday
, when they arrived at his Lima home to enforce the preliminary detention order against him linked to the Odebrecht corruption case investigation.
"It was known that Alan Garcia Perez possessed firearms because these were registered at Sucamec (National Superintendency for the Control of Security Services, Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives for Civilian Use)," Perez told Colombian Blu Radio.
For his part, the official defended the preliminary detention order against Garcia, since he posed a risk of flight. As is known, the former President had requested asylum to
Colombia and
Uruguay in 2018.
The petitions were denied.
Furthermore, the Prosecutor informed that —although the criminal proceeding against the ex-President has been closed due to his death— the investigations on Lima Metro Line and the South Interoceanic Highway Project bribes —paid by the Odebrecht company to former Peruvian officials— will continue.
