Peru President presents new police contingent for patrolling Lima and Callao

08:00 | Lima, Feb. 28.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra, joined by Interior Minister Carlos Moran, on Friday led the presentation of over 2,400 police officers who were reassigned from other units to reinforce preventive patrol in Lima and Callao.

The reassignment, made after a thorough evaluation of police personnel, will not only reduce the deficit in police numbers, but also create new task forces and deploy every available officer to strengthen citizen security.

The presentation of the new contingent of law enforcement officers featured National Police Commander General Jose Luis Lavalle, and head of the Order and Security Department at the National Police, Lieutenant General Gaston Rodriguez.

Also present at the ceremony were Colonel Herbert Ramos, head of the Lima Police Region, and General Juan Olivera, head of the Callao Police Region.

Mr. Vizcarra stressed the fact that there will be more police officers patrolling the streets due to the reassignment of the administrative staff.

He highlighted the significant reduction in security personnel assigned to State ministers so as to put them at the service of public safety units.
